How do I install and activate my GlacierGrid Door Sensor?
The GlacierGrid Door Sensor tells you whether a door is open or closed. It comes in two pieces: the sensor, which mounts on the door frame, and a magnet, which mounts on the door. When the door opens, the magnet moves away from the sensor. The sensor sends that change to your GlacierGrid Hub, which uploads it to your dashboard.

Why it Matters to Your Business
- Door status in your dashboard: see whether a door is open or closed, and when it last changed.
- Faster diagnostics: if a cooler, freezer or room runs warm, our team can quickly see whether a door was left open.
What You Need
- Your GlacierGrid Door Sensor (the sensor and the magnet)
- The adhesive pads or screws included in the box
- A screwdriver, if you use screws
- A GlacierGrid Hub that is plugged in and online
Before You Start
- Check that your GlacierGrid Hub is online. See How can I optimize my hub connectivity?
- Each sensor is set up for a specific door. Take a photo of the label on the back of the sensor.
- It shows the sensor's EUI code, which GlacierGrid Support will ask for.
- Once the sensor is mounted, the label faces the door frame and is hard to read.
Step 1: Turn It On
- Pull the battery tab out of the sensor.
- The light stays solid green for about 3 seconds.
- Two green blinks means the sensor has connected. A single red blink before that is normal. It means the sensor is asking to join the network.
If you see no light at all, contact GlacierGrid Support before you mount the sensor.
Step 2: Attach It to the Door
- Clean both mounting surfaces and make sure they are dry.
- Hold the sensor on the door frame and the magnet on the door, with the notched sides facing each other.
- Close the door. Check that the gap between the two pieces is 1/2 inch or less and that they line up at the same height.
- Open and close the door a few times to make sure it doesn't hit either piece.
- Stick each piece on with the adhesive pads provided and press firmly for a few seconds.
Using screws instead? Pop off the sensor's back cover, screw the cover to the door frame, then snap the sensor back on. Screw the magnet to the door through its mounting holes.
Leave both pieces alone for 24 hours so the adhesive can bond.
Step 3: Check It's Connected
- Close the door and wait about 3 seconds.
- Open the door and wait about 3 seconds.
- Close the door again.
Watch the light on the sensor each time. One green blink means it is connected and reporting. One red blink means it is not connected, so contact GlacierGrid Support.
Don't open and close the door too quickly. The sensor needs a few seconds in each position to register the change.

Step 4: Tell GlacierGrid It's Installed
Contact GlacierGrid Support once both pieces are up and share:
- Your site name and address
- Which door the sensor is on
- The EUI code from your photo
Our team will confirm remotely that the sensor is online and reporting open and close correctly.

Where can I see my door status?
Open the Equipment Details screen for the cooler, freezer or HVAC unit the sensor is attached to. You'll see the door sensor's name, its latest state (Open or Closed) and when that last changed.
Battery
- The sensor runs on one ER14250 (1/2 AA) 3.6V lithium battery. Standard AA and alkaline batteries will not work.
- A battery typically lasts 5 years or more.
- When the battery runs low, the sensor reports it to GlacierGrid. Contact GlacierGrid Support and we'll help you replace it.
Troubleshooting FAQ
Q: My door shows Open, but it's closed. What should I do?
- Make sure the door is fully closed. A door left ajar reads as Open.
- Check that the notched sides face each other, the gap is 1/2 inch or less, and the pieces line up at the same height.
- Check that neither piece has shifted or come loose.
Q: My sensor shows Offline or isn't reporting. What should I do?
- Check that your GlacierGrid Hub is plugged in and online.
- Make sure the battery tab was pulled all the way out.
- Open and close the door and watch for a green blink. If you see a red blink or no light, contact GlacierGrid Support.
Q: A piece came loose. What should I do?
- Keep both pieces and contact GlacierGrid Support. We'll walk you through putting it back in the right spot.
Q: Should I reset the sensor?
- Only if GlacierGrid Support asks you to. To restart it, carefully remove the cover and hold the reset button for about 3 seconds. The light blinks slowly.
- Holding the button for 10 seconds or more wipes the sensor's setup (the light blinks fast), and GlacierGrid will need to set it up again.
